Council Meeting, 21 April 2008

A very informative meeting was held on Monday night the 21st of April.  The meeting began with a presentation by National Inspection Corporation (NIC) regarding property maintenance.  Basically if you have a problem in your neighborhood you should contact NIC.  Phone: 937-433-4642 or 800-748-7704.  NIC is trying very hard to keep our Village the gem of the Miami Valley.

The March Financial Report was very interesting and a tip of the hat to Councilman Bob McClain.  Last council meeting he asked the Finance officer to check into the possibility of our Village getting the rebate offered by Marathon Oil Co.  The Finance officer reported that she had checked into this possiblity and discovered that the rebate advertised is for private citizens only, but it would appear we would qualify for a fleet discount.  She will continue to pursue this and report later.  THANK YOU, Councilman McClain and also the Finance Officer for the good work.

The Germantown Fire Chief has resigned and an Advertisement has been made for a new Fire Chief.

Cindy Wallace discussed, with the Council, the selling of Beer at the 2008 Saturday Night Out functions.

It was reported that the Voices of the Valley Newsletter is discontinuing operations.  It sounds like Germantown may be publishing their own Newsletter, quarterly.

The Chief of Police gave an excellent report which reflected a lot of work and analysis done by the Germantown Police Department.  This report was on the Traffic Crash Analysis of Truck Route (Farmersville Pike - North Plum Street - to State Route 725) 1999 through 2007.  During that period there was a total of 67 crashes with 14 injuries.  The Village and Council are trying very hard to eliminate the hazzards of having the 5-Way intersection, sometimes referred to as the Five Points.  In case you have not noticed the Village has installed two new signs on the East and West sides of Warren Street where it intersects with Plum Street.  The new signs read “CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP”.  I personally think these will help people who are not familiar with that situation.  Another sign has been installed on a telephone pole on the West side of Farmersville Pike about halfway down the hill coming South from Comstock.  This sign says “DANGEROUS INTERSECTION”.  THANK YOU VERY MUCH, Council members, Village Manager and Chief of Police for your hard work on this subject.

Drivers unfamiliar with the intersection, elderly, or very young drivers, may find it difficult to  manage the risk factors above mentioned, that are associated with this route, including the Five Points intersection.  School age pedestrians sometimes get mixed signals from drivers while waiting to cross a street, and the reverse is true as well
